What a year. There is nothing people love more than being reminded of an event that got them so worked up that they posted about it fives times on Facebook and Twitter. As the year draws to a close I thought it would be fun to look back at some of this year’s best moments from the world of pop culture that we all forgot about the next day while we were getting drunk and listening to Fetty Wap.
50 Shades of Grey Movie
Based on the best selling books, the motion picture was one of the most highly anticipated movies of the year. It was relased on Valentine’s Day weekend and was an immediate box office success, earning over $570 million dollars worldwide. The soundtrack for the film also featured huge artists like The Weeknd and Ellie Goulding, and is now nominated for a Golden Globe. (FYI: The best part in the entire movie is when Christian Grey eats a piece of toast.)
Katy Perry’s Superbowl Performance included some shark mascots that stole the show and became social media sensations. I hope Katy Perry didn’t pay the person who choreographed those dance moves a lot of money because they’re atrocious. Not to mention they resemble one of those blow up noodle people you see outside used car dealerships on the side of the highway.
Netflix and Chill
Somehow this means sex. We can all thank Tinder for this one I’m sure.
Man buns were a thing this year. People either love them, or hate them, but regardless they were a thing. Guys who could pull their hair into a perfectly mastered messy bun were considered the hotest of the hot. There are Instagram accounts dedicated to men with messy man buns (and they are basically what dreams are made of).
Taylor Swift and her #SquadGoals
Now that Taylor Swift is finally over her breakup with Harry Styles and is steadily dating Calvin Harris, she no longer has terribly sad breakup songs to write (this is probably why she is taking a break from music for a while now). So this year, instead of making us wallow in the sadness of her failed relationships, she made us all jealous by hanging out with her hot model friends and posting about it on Instagram. Thanks Tay, really appreciate it.
Is it blue and black? Is it white and gold? This was probably one of the most annoying moments in social media history. The heated social media debate went from 0 to 100 real quick. Relationships were destroyed because of this dress.
This video became a cultural phenomenon. Drake was able to make a video that showcased all the dance moves I would do while listening to this song alone in my car. Not to mention that turtleneck. Drake nailed it with this one.
Justin Bieber turned everyone into Beliebers
Bieber finally made his comeback and reminded us all why we used to love him. From “Where Are U Now?” to “Sorry,” no one could hate on Bieber this year. His album Purpose did not disappoint. (Also remember when we all saw Bieber’s wiener this year? Good times.)
Star Wars came back
Honestly, I don’t watch Star Wars, but I know this was a big deal for most people this year. Star Wars: The Force Awakens was released. The film is the first in the Star Wars sequel trilogy that was announced by Disney in 2012. So congratulations Star Wars fans, I’m glad another Star Wars movie was released, because there wasn’t enough already right?
Adele returned to music
Hello…THE QUEEN IS BACK. Her new album titled 25 is the first in four years. The album sold more than 3 million copies in a week. She slayed Taylor Swift and Bieber right off the charts. (I am also hoping her success will inspire her to do an eyeliner tutorial in the new year.)
Zayn left One Direction
Zayn Malik shocked the world when he woke up one day and decided he didn’t want to be a part of the most famous boyband in the world anymore (true). His departure from the group also led to some emotional aftermath including Harry crying on stage, and the famous Zayn and Louis Twitter war. The 22-year-old singer officially left the boy band and is now pursuing a solo career. BYE FELICIA.
Bruce became Caitlyn
I remember hearing rumours about it and I thought, “that can’t be true.” As it turns out, I was wrong and the rumours were true. Olympic athlete and father of the Kardashian-Jenner clan, Bruce Jenner began his transition into a woman and is now Caitlyn Jenner.
